Helen Thomas’s passion for painting started when she was a child. She learned to paint in oil at the age of ten, thanks to her parents who recognized her strong interest in drawing and art in general. She learned about other mediums, acrylics, pastel and colored pencil while in high school in France. She learned transparent watercolor techniques from Roland Lee, a nationally known artist in St. George, Utah.
| Although she pursued her scientific study in college and received a master’s degree in electrical engineering; she always painted as much as possible. Her husband is very supportive of her passion and encourages her to pursue her dream. She is constantly learning and developing new techniques in a variety of mediums.
For the past 10 years she has been painting professionally in Las Vegas, Nevada and in Pacific City, Oregon. She loves to express herself through vibrant colors, to display the beauty of nature in serene, peaceful settings. Fascinated by the jewel-like colors of hummingbirds, one of her series depicts hummingbirds in a variety of poses with different flowers. She is currently painting a parrot series in acrylics, in unique poses, emphasizing their magnificent colorful feathers. She is inspired by traveling and spending time outdoors watching and videotaping wildlife. She is interested in a wide variety of themes, namely birds, flowers, landscape, still life and commission portraits. She enjoys capturing the innocent, inquisitive expressions of children in her commission portraits. Her paintings capture a special moment in time, a feeling or an action. |
